Virgin Mary ‘miracle’ as city residents affected by coronavirus see saint ‘appear in the sky’
The Christian faithful claim that the Virgin Mary appeared in heaven and protects them from coronavirus.
The moment was filmed around 5 p.m. on Wednesday in the city of San Carlos, in the province of Corrientes, northeast Argentina.
It shows three rays of blue and white light appearing from the sky – the colors commonly associated with the Christian saint.
An anonymous resident whose daughter took the photo said: “In the sky a rainbow began to be seen, then drops began to create the figure (of the Virgin) in the sky surrounding the sun. “.
Local media reported that some residents compared the figure seen in the sky with the Virgin of Itati, the patron saint of the province of Corrientes.
Susy Jimenez also claims that she saw the figure like the Virgin Mary and said it was a miracle, writing: “Thank you Mother for protecting us, for interceding for God and for your mercy for the people”.
Reports say the figure was also seen from the nearby town of Candelaria, San Carlos – believed to be one of the oldest Jesuit towns in the province.
Nancy Cervantes Saez commented: “There are a lot of stories… I know we are very sensitive, aren’t we asking for some hope?”
It comes at the same time as the coronavirus pandemic worsens in South America and the start of the lockdown across Argentina.
The UK Home Office said cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) have been confirmed in Argentina and Argentine authorities have introduced a number of measures to limit the spread of the virus.
On March 19, Argentina introduced a nationwide quarantine to last from midnight to midnight on Tuesday March 31.
The quarantine exemptions are for one-person trips to purchase basic necessities, such as medicine or food, and to get to an airport.
