‘Russian Rambo’ who sacrificed himself to kill Daesh nuts was about to become a dad
Brave Alexander Prokhorenko ordered an airstrike against himself when ISIS surrounded him near the ancient city of Palmyra.
He was directing airstrikes against the Islamic State and knew they could obtain vital information if he was caught alive.
It has now emerged that he was on the verge of becoming a dad for the first time when he decided to take dozens of ISIS thugs with him.
The 25-year-old was married to his wife Ekaterina 18 months ago and said he felt like “the happiest man in the world” in a wedding tape.
In the video, seen by Russian newspaper Orenday, he also claimed that his dreams of a wonderful woman and a military career were coming true.
“He dreamed of being in the military and it started,” the newspaper reported. “He dreamed that he had the best wife in the world, and she appeared.”
But his wife apparently had no idea where he served and assumed he was in the southern Caucasus region of Russia.
Yury Berg, governor of the Orenburg region of Russia, paid tribute to Alexander in a blog post.
He wrote: “I express my condolences to the family and mother of the deceased hero – our compatriot Alexander Prokhorenko.
“He accomplished the feat in distant Syria, protecting the interests of the Russian state, to protect mankind from the terrible scourge – global terrorism.”
Pledging to visit family, he said: “It is our duty to take care of the relatives and friends of those who have chosen the difficult path of defending the homeland.”
The governor also compared Alexander to his compatriots who fell fighting the Nazis in World War II – known as the Great Patriotic War in Russia.
ISIS – also known as Daesh – faces attacks on its self-proclaimed caliphate on multiple fronts in Iraq and Syria.
As a warning to its rivals, ISIS beheaded three Kurdish fighters in a new video from an occupied city.
