The fact that Port Colborne is holding a public meeting is not big news. They have them all the time.

However, the topic should certainly be on the minds of both city developers and homeowners looking to build everything from patios to home additions.

The town is holding a public meeting on May 17 at 6:30 p.m. because it plans to pass a proposed new building permit fee bylaw.

To be certain, they are not looking to cut fees. If the regulation is adopted, they could even add new ones.

The city said, “The effect (of the bylaw change) will be to increase the existing rate structure and introduce new fees.”

Residents and developers will be able to see the proposed fee increase when the city posts its public meeting schedule on its website on May 12.

Alternatively, residents can subscribe to receive reunion packages straight to their inbox on May 12.

Anyone wishing to attend the meeting is asked to submit a written submission which will be distributed to councilors prior to the meeting.

Written submissions and requests for virtual participation must be received by noon on May 17 by email [email protected] or by calling 905-835-2900 x115.

Written submissions may also be submitted to the mailbox, located at the front left of City Hall, 66 Charlotte Street.
