Mother of killed teenager asks audience for help finding someone of interest in the video
DORAL, Florida – It’s been over a year since Carlos, the 16-year-old son of Lliliam Alonso, passed away. A gunman killed him – just a day before Mother’s Day – in southwest Miami-Dade.
At a press conference Wednesday at the Miami-Dade Police Department headquarters in Doral, Alonso described his slain son as “very affectionate.”
Detective Jessica Alvarez posted surveillance footage on Wednesday showing someone of interest in the May 9, 2020 case.
“So what is shown in the video is a black man who is seen trying to run away… he walks away very calmly so we would like to talk to him; see what he saw, or if he was involved, ”Alvarez said.
Alonso said Carlos told him he was going fishing when he left. Officers found him injured shortly before 4 p.m. near his home in the West Perrine neighborhood.
“It wasn’t just a hit; it was five, ”said Karla Iraheta, her sister, in her public appeal for help last year.
Officers found him in a backyard along Southwest 179th Street, between Southwest 105th and 107th avenues. Firefighters took him to Jackson South Medical Center where he died.
Detectives hope the video may provide clues that may finally help the grieving family of the slain teen find a sense of closure. They ask anyone with information to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
