Monarch Ridge Apartment tenants say they haven’t had gas since July
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (WBRC) – We have received several calls and emails from people living at Monarch Ridge Apartments.
Those who live there have many problems with the resort.
They worry about crime in the area, garbage that is not cleaned up, repairs that are not completed in housing and, more recently, the lack of gas to cook or heat the apartments.
Christopher Orr has lived at Monarch Ridge Apartments, formerly known as Valley Brook Apartments, for three years.
He said the resort’s problems started for him immediately after he moved in.
“The meter was actually stolen from the apartment on the side of the building. And then after being there, when you place work orders, they don’t come and fix things properly as they say they do. I mean… they’ll say they’re coming, you put a work order, they don’t, ”Orr said.
The complex also had problems with flooding, garbage and crime.
Orr said there had also been several shootings in the area. But the most recent problem is that the complex is not receiving gas. It’s still summer, so heating your apartment is not a problem at the moment.
But he hasn’t been able to cook on his stove since July.
“The gas has been cut off. It went off one day in the middle of the day. They sent notes that week and said there was a gas leak and they were working efficiently to fix the gas leak, but it was never fixed, ”Orr explained.
The solution? Management distributed hot plates to residents, saying in statements that they were still working to resolve the issue.
“And it’s just with the hotplates, it’s just hard to cook. You can’t cook nothing in the oven, and the only thing you can do is cook on those two hotplates, and you’ve got a whole stove in there that you can’t do anything with. I had items that I could cook and bake, but I can’t do anything with them because I didn’t have gas lit in there, ”Orr said.
We contacted Monarch Ridge Apartments to find out what the gas situation was.
They took our name and number and said someone would answer us, but so far no one has responded to our request for comment.
I also contacted the mayor’s office, and they said they were looking into this issue.
