The interiors of the terminal have been designed to reflect the art and culture of local culture and heritage. The design of the arches of the front facade of the terminal is derived from the arches commonly used in heritage structures such as the Maharaja Palace, Bhavani Mandap and the Panhala Fort in the city of Kolhapur. The airport operator also wants the building to earn a four-star green rating for the Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) for energy efficiency.

Along with the construction of a new terminal building, the development project includes the extension of the airport’s existing runway as well as the construction of a new apron and an isolation bay. Additionally, a new air traffic control tower is also being built to accommodate future traffic growth, and the parking area will accommodate 110 cars and 10 buses.

The new terminal is intended to boost the region’s tourism industry, create new employment opportunities for the local community and provide access to better educational and medical facilities.
