‘It’s not suicide’: family of missing woman found in Missouri calls death suspicious
KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Estella Dekaye, 23, had been missing for four days when kayakers found her body in the Missouri River.
Kansas City Police told FOX4 his death was being investigated as apparent suicide. They do not believe any foul play was involved, but did not provide further details, citing the ongoing investigation.
But Dekaye’s sister said she was not convinced her sister had committed suicide.
“It’s not suicide. It is not suicide. Someone did that to him, “said Charline Noudjitar, sister of the victim.
Dekaye and his family moved from the Central African Republic to Kansas City 10 years ago. She is described as a star student, who not only graduated from high school but also college with a GPA of 4.0.
The family said they enjoyed volunteering at A Simple House of Sts. Francis and Alphonsus where they said she will be remembered for always helping people and being kind.
Most of all, she loved her close-knit family.
“I talked to him all the time. Whenever she gets the chance, when she’s not at work, she calls me. I know my sister would never do that sort of thing, ”Noudjitar said. “This case here?” Someone has to do something about this matter. How could she walk, keep walking to the Missouri River? “
Dekaye disappeared on Tuesday, September 28 from his apartment near the 12th and Paseo.
Her sister said the timeline of her disappearance was unclear, but all of her belongings were left at home.
She said the only clue is missed and answered calls from a number the family doesn’t recognize.
The family have also said they have been the target of random crimes in recent weeks, including a break-in and another family member caught in the middle of a road shooting.
“They take my sister’s phone, they put it aside. I call every day, five times a day, I try to speak with the investigator, no one calls back my call, ”Noudjitar said. “When you’re poor, it’s a little hard for you to get help, women of color, hard for you to get help. It is said to be the land of the free. I don’t see any freedom here.
Noudjitar has retained a lawyer in his fight for justice. They ask for information or someone who could have seen Dekaye at any time of the night or day.
“Even though I have to spend a lot of money, I will never give up on this business. This is the love I have for my sister, and I will stand up for her. But for them to say it was suicide? Definitely not. Red flag.”
