Finnieston Property: Plans Unveiled for New York-style West Avenue Apartment Development
Plans have been unveiled for a New York-style apartment development in Finnieston.
Proposals have been submitted to Glasgow City Council for West Avenue, which will include 155 apartments and commercial spaces at the corner of Finnieston Street and Minverva Street in west Glasgow.
The plans, submitted by Ambassador Living, display a “New York City” aesthetic and include a mix of one, two and three bedroom apartments and seven retail and leisure units on the ground floor.
If West Avenue gets the green light from council planners, construction is expected to begin in early 2022.
Unveiling of the proposals, Ambassador Living said: “A detailed planning request has been submitted to Glasgow City Council, for the creation of 155 apartments and commercial spaces at a prominent position in Finnieston.
The plans, presented by upscale home builder, Ambassador Living, part of the Ambassador Group, are designed to reinvigorate the brownfield site with historic development, located at the corner of Finnieston Street and Minerva Street, which was considered by many to be the gateway to the West End.
“West Avenue is a mixed-use development, named, to reflect its New York aesthetic. The development comprises a mix of high-specification one, two and three-bedroom apartments. A seven-unit bank for sale at retail and leisure will operate along the ground floor.
“The proposed elevations reflect the existing architecture seen in the local surroundings and are favorable to the Minerva Street Conservation Area. A high-quality natural stone facade gives a nod to a bygone era, where apartment buildings once stood proudly on the grounds.
“Ambassador Living is no stranger to creating upscale urban living spaces in Glasgow with its flagship development, Park Quadrant Residences, in the West End Park District now in its final stages.”
Gordon Coster, Managing Director of Ambassador Living, said: “Finnieston is perhaps one of Glasgow’s most desirable areas right now. The location of our West Avenue development is in a prime position to become the cornerstone of the burgeoning neighborhood.
“Our plans reflect modern life with a sympathetic nod to the site’s history, returning it to its former glory and becoming a beacon as you enter the popular West End.”
As part of the proposals, a public domain is about to be created and, in addition to the apartments and commercial spaces, the detailed plans also cover the parking area of the adjacent new Lidl store, which has become a place of popular shopping for locals.
A broad consultation for the project took place in December.
Gordon added: “We are excited about our proposals and confident that we can breathe new life into this area of Finnieston, turning it into something quite special that the people of Glasgow can be proud of. We look forward to working with Glasgow City Council as our plans move forward. “
