Cook dominating as Louisiana takes Game 2
Connor Cooke pitched another fantastic game, wearing a batting pitch in the seventh inning and putting the Ragin ‘Cajuns in a good position to claim a 3-2 victory over Troy at ML’ Tigue ‘Moore Field in Russo Park on Friday night.
Picking up his seventh win of the season, Cooke was amazing on his debut. The Sulfur, Louisiana native had a perfect game in the sixth inning and a no-hitting in the seventh.
It took Loiuisiana a set to get her three runs, all of which were tackled on RBI singles from Drake Osborn, CJ Willis and Bobby Lada in the fifth.
After the fifth, Orlando Ortiz (6-5) threw another frame before being replaced by Kyle Gamble.
The two starting pitchers were on until the fourth inning. Ortiz only allowed one shot in four frames, while Cooke was perfect.
Cooke abandoned a home run early in the eighth inning against Clay Stearns and left the game with a runner in the second who eventually managed to score on a brace from Logan Cerny.
Talley entered the game with two strikeouts in the eighth and allowed just one hit, which led to the Ragin ‘Cajuns’ 3-2 win and his eighth save of the year.
Louisiana will celebrate the academic achievements of two managers and 12 student-athletes as well as the recognition of four senior baseball players on Saturday after the game.
Louisiana will look to win the series against Troy on Saturday at 4 p.m. at ML ‘Tigue’ Moore Field in Russo Park.
