Ceiling crashes in mother’s New York apartment after she complains of leaks for a year
(WPIX) – For over a year, a woman in New York City complained to building management that her house’s ceiling was leaking, she said.
Now it is an emergency that is impacting the health and safety of her family, she said.
Tathianna Kinch, of Brooklyn, was sleeping Sunday night when her ceiling collapsed in her fourth-floor apartment in Crown Heights. The floor of her living room is covered in debris and garbage bags, and she has buckets everywhere to help soak up the water.
Kinch said she had been trying to contact the New York City Housing Authority for more than a year about issues with her caps.
“I was told I had to wait for a date. They hire people from the outside. Whenever they have someone, ”Kinch said. “But my son’s health is important.
Kinch has a 6-year-old son and worries that he lives with a constantly falling ceiling.
A superintendent visited Kinch’s home on Monday, promising her that they would start working to move her and her son to another apartment.
A NYCHA spokesperson sent a statement to WPIX on Monday, saying, “NYCHA staff are cleaning on site and working with resident to plan and complete repairs.”
