Delivered over an eight-week period, the Build Dumfries & Galloway program was designed and led by the South West Scotland hub. The initiative is open to construction companies in the region and covers business areas such as leadership, digital marketing, procurement, finance, cybersecurity and labor law.

Laura, who participated with her colleague Toni Anderson, said: “We are delighted to have won this award and very happy to have participated in the Build Dumfries & Galloway programme. For us, the program provided a fantastic platform to discuss the issues facing our industry, as well as the solutions.

“The program gave us the tools, guidance and direction to improve our business and was a great opportunity to step away from our usual day-to-day operations to better understand what we need to do to plan for the future. Being able to present our commercial offer and dialogue directly with level 1 subcontractors – which we had never considered before – was a real revelation and very positive discussions have already taken place.

The Build programme, run in partnership with Dumfries & Galloway Council and South of Scotland Enterprise, is designed to help local businesses with the ambition to grow in a sustainable way. its objective is to support them in the development of internal skills and capacities to take on growing business volumes and know-how to improve performance, develop contacts and secure future tendering opportunities.

Companies that joined Hoddam Contracting as part of the inaugural Build Dumfries & Galloway program were Cool & Easy Ltd, DG project solutions Ltd, GTR Contracts Ltd, Hire & Supplies, JDC Consulting Engineers, LIP Construction Ltd, Nairn Construction Ltd and Robert Potter and Partners LLP.

hub South West Scotland has extended the scheme to Dumfries & Galloway following the success of the scheme in Ayrshire and Lanarkshire over the past five years.

Mark Houston, Supply Chain Manager at the South West hub, said: “It has been a privilege to work with Laura and Toni and all the other companies on our first Build Dumfries & Galloway programme. We had a very productive eight weeks and I think all of the participating companies benefited greatly from the experience and the opportunity to connect with key entrepreneurs who can make such a difference to a growing business.

“We would also like to thank our judges who participated in the final day of the program: Ricky Brown, Senior Director of Operations at Morgan Sindall; Neil McIntyre, Head of Project Management, Dumfries and Galloway Council; and Claire Renton, Area Manager at South of Scotland Enterprise, who had the daunting task of deciding the winning company.

“We want our programs to be inspiring and provide a valuable experience for everyone who participates. We are now actively looking for Ayrshire-based businesses to take part in our next program, Build Ayrshire, which starts in February next year.
